I regret killing my only brother over N100,000 debt – Suspect

By Wole Mosadomi,   Minna

Niger State Police Command has arrested one ldris Aliyu,45, of Daka’agi village in Wushishi Local Government Area of the state for allegedly hacking his younger brother to death over a disagreement on N100,000 debt.

The deceased is identified  as Aliyu Aliyu.

The late Aliyu  was said to be expecting a new baby soon through his wife.

The suspect and the deceased were said to have been living under the same roof since they were young and engaged in  farming until N100,000  separated  them and led to Idris hacking his brother.

Trouble started when the suspect borrowed the N100,000 from his friend and gave it to his late brother to renovate his house in the same compound with a promise of refunding the money after harvesting their farm produce.

However, the deceased, it was learnt, reneged on the agreement.

“I was angered by my late brother’s attitude to refund the money knowing fully well that he had the money and I was left with no option than to kill him as I pulled out my machete and hacked him,” the suspect told the police.

The deceased was said to have been lying down on a bench listening to his transistor radio, when  his elder brother, after  a  hot argument, went to his room, brought out his machete and inflicted several cuts on his neck and he died before help could come.

“I and my brother had been living and farming together since we were young but I don’t know what actually went into the extent that I killed him. I regret killing him; it was out of anger; the devil actually pushed me to take that step”, Idris lamented.

“My life is finished as I have killed my only brother whose wife is expecting a baby soon”.

Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, who confirmed the incident, said the Wushishi Police Division arrested the suspect after a tip-off, adding that Idris will soon be charged to court after investigations.
