The State of Osun House Assembly (OSHA), at the plenary of Tuesday 25th June, 2019, following the allocation of seats to honourable members performed by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye at the last sitting, got into the swing of legislative business when the Speaker championed a bill to get rid of menace of kidnapping with a bill titled “State of Osun Kidnapping (Prohibition Bill), 2019 which recommends life imprisonment for perpetrators of the dastardly act.
The bill when passed into law will among other things prevent the likelihood of occurrence of kidnapping incidents, provide appropriate sanctions on anyone found to engage in or aiding and abetting kidnapping activities, deter anyone contemplating on engaging in kidnapping or related activities and further quarantees peace and security among residence and visitors to the State of Osun.
"Considering the fact that the occurrence of kidnapping and other social vices have been on the increase in recent time, timely effort should be made by all and sundry to put a stop to this menace in our society." The sponsor of the bill said as it had his first reading after a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Marouf Olanrewaju.
