The Osun House of Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye was the Special Guest at the closing ceremony of the 2019 capacity building workshop, 7th of its kind, organized by the University of Ibadan Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies (IPSS).
The Masters Degree undergraduates of the Institute have organized a 5-day workshop at the Legacy Hotel, Osogbo on peace and security discussions towards a peaceful and united Nigeria. The workshop that ran from Monday the 10th of June, 2019 came to aclose on Friday the 14th with the main goal of bridging the existing gap between theory and practice of security studies and peace building at the national, continental and global levels. To this extent, the classroom activities are supplemented with invited lecturers and simulation exercises delivered by seasoned conflict, security and disaster risk management practitioners across the globe. The students were taken outside the University for different forms of capacity building contacts and Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye had once facilitated the participation of the erstwhile State of Osun Governor, Engr. Rauf Aregbesola at such extra-academic gathering.
In his remarks at the closing ceremony, Rt. Hon Timothy Owoeye gave special thanks to God Almighty for sparing his live to be part of the programme as he reminiscenced on his days as a student of the Institute. He said. "It will interest you to know that I went through this capacity building programme some sessions ago as a student of the Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies. I also want to thank God for whom I am today because some years back I facilitated the invitation and presence of His Excellency, Engr. Rauf Aregbesola, the then Governor of the State of Osun as the Special Guest of Honour for the programme, but today, by divine providence, I am here as a Special Guest of Honour in my God given official capacity as the Speaker of the House of Assembly of the State of Osun. To Him in gratitude, is all the glory."
The new OSHA Speaker admitted at the occasion that many skills he acquired during his tutelage as a student of Peace Building and Development Studies in the prestigious Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies have afforded and still affording him great opportunities among his peers. In his words he said. "As a matter of facts, as a third term Legislator in the State of Osun House of Assembly, most of the qualities that stand me out among other members are skills acquired at practical sessions during the capacity building workshop as this and I will forever be grateful for this."
He was accompanied to the occasion by the Deputy Speaker OSHA, Hon. Femi Popoola.
