African Development Bank Reacts to Ilesa East Ward 4 Portable Water Problem

Ahead of the accomplishment of the gigantic Ilesa Water Project slated for December 2020,  many Ilesa communities still encounter problem of getting safe portable water for daily need. At the Ilemo/Ijamo quarters of Ward 4 Ilesa East Local Government in the State of Osun, Nigeria , in the dry season, the people still rely on local water wells to fetch water for their daily needs and when the wells are dry they contact water tankers for supply at exhorbitant rate but at this season of the rains, they fill their buckets and drums.

However, the days of their sufferings at Ilesa East Ward 4  are about to end. Hon. Wale Jegede, the councillor representing the ward had earlier written a "save-our-soul" letter to the Chairman of the Council, Hon. Akeem Olowoopejobori, so, when Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly got a slot of the African Development Bank-funded pipe-borne, gravity fed water supply scheme for Ilesa community, the decision for its location rightly fell on Ilemo\Ijoka quarters.

In our correspondent's chat with some residents of the ward on Tuesday 16th July, 2019, High Chief David Jegede, the Leemodu of Ilesa could not hide his happiness as he sat patiently with the engineers at site supervising the drilling while the councilor representing the ward at the Ilesa East Council parliament seized the opportunity to appeal to men and women to support the Osun government by paying their taxes regularly.

The objective of the project, that is to be completed by mid-August, 2019 is to spur socio-economic growth in the State by improving the health and livelihoods of marginalized populations through the provision of a sustainable water supply and improved sanitation.
