4 Consecutive Mandates to Represent Ilesa East State Constituency; Owoeye Thanks Ijesa People






The State of Osun House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Owoeye has thanked God and the Ijesa people for the rare privilege given to him as he is the first Ijesaman to become Speaker of House of Assembly, emphasizing that it has never been done that Ijesa people gave four (4) consecutive mandates to any person.

He made the remark when members of Iwude-Ijesa Planning Committee led by the Vice Chairman, Chief Afolabi Igbaroola on Tuesday 3rd September, 2019 paid a courtesy visit on him in his office.

Iwude-Ijesa ceremony is a week long programme that is celebrated by the Owa Obokun Adimula who is the Paramount ruler of Ijesaland. The climax of the festival is celebrated on the last Saturday before every Christmas.This year ceremony comes up on Saturday 21st December, 2019.



The committee members that were with the Vice Chairman included, Prof. Timothy Rotimi Tayo, Chief Ayo Agbede, Mr. Akin Ajayi-Obe, Prince Isaac Hastrup, Mr. Olufemi Michael Olutoba, Mrs. Abiola Kolawole, Dr. Mrs. Sola Akinsola, Mr. Oladimeji Lasore and the committee's secretary, Mrs. Bunmi Ogunbiyi.

Explaining the purpose of the visit, Chief Igbaroola highlighted partnership with the state government, Osun Assembly and the Osun Speaker himself who is an Ijesa man and this year's festival will be the first that he will witness at that epoch position of his career. He therefore enjoined the Speaker to use his position to take the ceremony to a greater height as he seized the occasion to appreciate the State Government that has been supporting the festival.



Also speaking at the occasion, Prof. Rotimi Tayo implored the Osun Assembly Speaker to "always remember the son of whom he is" and that in spite of all the pressure of his extolled office, he should not forget to create a niche with homeland and strife to leave a legacy.

Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye assured the committee that he will do all necessary to support all that will lead to the success of the festival. He also appreciated the erstwhile Osun governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and the incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola on his emergence as the 5th Osun Assembly Speaker.

Hon. Festus Babatunde Komolafe, representing Atakumosa East and West at OSHA was also presented by the Speaker to the Committee members as an illustrious son of Ijesaland.

The highlight of the visit also witnessed the presentation of Iwude-Ijesa ceremony programmes for the last five years and a special invitation to the Speaker to attend the 80th Birthday ceremony of Chief Akinola the Sawe of Ilesa which is specially being organized by notable Ijesa sons and daughters to celebrate the Ijesa icon.
