The Speaker of the State of Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye has charged the students of the State attending tertiary institutions across the country to direct their energy into what can contribute into development of the country. He made the remark at the Aurora Conference Centre in Osogbo the venue the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS), National Headquarters' public lecture with the theme; Good Governance and Public Security; Pathway to economic development organized on Monday 21st of October, 2019.
The governor of the state, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola was represented at the lecture by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Charles Akinola.
Speaking at the occasion, the Osun Speaker said that programs like the one organized by NAOSS Headquarters' will in no small way, contribute to the development of our state and country as he sought the indulgence of his listeners to affirm that insecurity has no colour nor is it limited to a particular region or ethnic group.
"I will like to express my disapproval of any act of criminality in strong terms and also ask that a particular ethnic group should not be tagged as the one perpetrating these dastardly acts in the country.
"We should all be ready to tackle criminals in our communities by being vigilant at all times." Owoeye said as he called on all citizens to have a sense of ownership in our community.
"We must have a feeling and the belief that we are all partners in governance and development of our society.
"There can not be development without adequate security. People should develop the feeling that they have a stake in the affairs of state."
The highlight of the occasion also included the presentation of an award of Live Time Achievement as an Ambassador of Good Governance to Rt. Hon. Najeem Salam the erstwhile Speaker of Osun Assembly.
