The first reading of an enabling Bill establishing the State of Osun College of Health Technology was introduced to the State of Osun House of Assembly by a letter emanating from the office of the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye at the plenary session of today Tuesday 15th October, 2019.
The motion for the first reading of the bill titled "Osun College of Health Technology, Ilesa Establishment Bill 2019" was moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Morouf Olanrewaju and seconded by the East Senatorial Whip of the House, Hon. Babatunde Komolafe.
The bill when passed into law shall among others, provide legal backing for the college, harmonize the college with counterpart Colleges of Health Technology existing in the country and smoothen and enhance service delivery among staff members both academic and non-academic.
All stakeholders from the Osun Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, students, are advised to bring in ideas and contributions before the second reading of the bill to be announced in no distant time.
The Speaker also spoke on the current state of disarray being caused by the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology’s joint ownership discrepancy.
He mentioned that the Osun State House of Assembly will initiate a meeting with its Oyo legislative counterpart in a bid resolve the trending dispute on the funding of the institution and put the issue to rest.
The Speaker also stated that there would be an organized meeting between the two visitors to the University, in the persons of the Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Gboyega Oyetola and his Oyo state counterpart, Mr. Seyi Makinde to resolve the dispute at a roundtable meeting.
He encouraged the people of both States to remain calm and collected while they await the outcome of the meeting.
