Many commercial motorcyclists were arrested in Ilesa, in the State of Osun, on Friday 3rd April, 2020 for defying restriction order in the state.
Their motorcycles were impounded in a joint operation carried out by the Ilesa East Local Government security agencies joint Codiv-19 Stay-at-home Compliance Task force comprising of Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps , Department of State Security (DSS) and other concerned body in the state while monitoring the level of compliance with the restriction order in Ilesa East Local Government and Ilesa North East LCDA.
The commercial motorcyclists were arrested at various areas in the city for disregarding the state government's no movement order.
The state governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola had in a statewide broadcast imposed a 14-day curfew in the state to ensure compliance with various directives earlier given to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the state restricting movements and banning public transport to curtail spread of the Coronavirus in the state.
The Divisional Police Officer of 'B' Division of the Nigeria Police, Ijamo, Ilesa, CSP Olugbenga Ajiboye expressed regrets that some okada operators still defied the order while promising that stricter measures would be put in place to ensure that no one flouts the government directives.
Leaving a note of warning, he said those that would subsequently arrested would be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.The DPO maintained that the culprits will be liable upon conviction to a prison term of six months or fine or both as penalties as stipulated in the law just introduced in the State.
