The principle of self help initiated by the Ijesa Development Assembly (IDA) to assist some selected Ijesa needy/vulnerable aged, challenged, widows etc that are considered to have been affected by the stay-at-home order dictated by the outbreak of coronavirus lockdown in the State of Osun has been launched in all the Local Councils of Ijesaland.
The 12 Local Councils of Ijesaland are Ilesa East LG, Iyemogun, Ilesa, Ilesa North East LCDA, Imo, Ilesa, Ilesa West LG, Oke Omiru, Ilesa, Ilesa West Central LCDA, Ereja, Ilesa, Atakumosa West LG, Osu.
Others are Atakumosa West Central LCDA, Ifewara, Atakumosa East LG, Iperindo, Atakumosa East Central LCDA, Iwara, Obokun LG, Ibokun, Obokun East LCDA, Ilare, Oriade LG, Ijebu-Ijesa and Oriade South LCDA, Ipeu-Ijesa.
The IDA is a congregation of all Ijesa sons and daughters at home and abroad which was established for the purpose of creating, unity, development and progress in Ijesaland. The assembly led by Prof. Foluso Okunmadewa has the objective of pulling everybody in Ijesaland together for the development of the land.
Recall that the kickoff of the IDA COVID-19 Relief Support of the launching of the relief support of N5000 to each of the selected beneficiaries was held on Thursday 7th May, 2020 at the palace of Elegboro of Ijebu-Ijesa, HRM Oba (Engr.) Moses Oluwafemi Agunsoye II, who had Oba Adenipekun Alowolodu, the Elere of Ere-Ijesa as his guest.
The Assembly had penciled down 1500 people to be assisted within all the 12 local councils of Ijesaland where 125 vulnerable people were selected as beneficiaries from each of the Councils.
The public launching of the distribution has since been done at Ipetu-Ijesa, Ibokun, Osu, Ifewara to mention a few.
Thursday 28th May, 2020, the IDA Relief Support Team led by Chief Afolabi Igbaroola were at the anccient town of Ipole-ijesa where they were received by the Ogboni of Ipole, Oba Samuel Adelegan Popoola.
It is worth to mention that the choice of Ipole is dictated by the importance of the town in Ijesa history. The Owa Obokun Adimula Owari and his brother Owaluse that established Ilesa, as the royal capital city of Ijesaland both first settled at Ipole in the fifteenth century. Also, in the consolidated administrative and management structure the Ijesa chieftancy and regional/provincial Lordships are vested in the Ogbonis of Ibokun, Ipole, Ijebu-Ijesa and Ilesa.
From the palace the team moved to the Ipole Town Hall, where Chief Adeniyi Adekunle, Afobaje Imobi_Ijesa represented the royal fathers of the zone and in his speech he appreciated the initiative of the IDA members.
Also, the Community and Social Development Programme (CSDP), Director in the State of Osun, Mrs. Funmi Abokede seized the occasion to mention the past collaboration of her department and Ipole town that included a borehole water project and the town hall.
Chief Afolabi Igbaroola explained the details of the IDA palliative and the modality for its distribution which allows public distribution to only 20 beneficiaries in line with the social distancing regulation put in place for the control of the spread of the novel coronavirus as Dr. Dipo Folorunso assisted at the distribution.
Some of the beneficiaries that talk to Kakaki Oodua Media correspondent expressed their gratitude and prayed for members of the IDA.
