The presence of Segilola Mining Company should bring structural change to the whole of Ijesaland says Oriade LG chairman






Hon. Bunmi Obeisun, the Chairman Oriade Local Government has advocated that the presence of Segilola Mining Company in Iperindo should create employment opportunities for the generality of the youth of Ijesaland and not only those of the Iperindo, Odo-ijesa and Imogbara communities where the company is located.

"The unity of Ijesaland is of greatest importance and all should be carried along accordingly. The gold mining  company should lever its expertise to provide vocational training, on-the-job learning and concrete employment opportunities for our young people generally." Obeisun made this known on Friday 16th September, 2020, when members of Ijesa Mineral Resources Development Forum (IMRDF), were at the Ijebu-jesa to sensitize traditional rulers, religious organizations, market women associations, youth forum and some higher institution students on the inherent danger in a situation whereby some Ijesa people sell  their landed property to gold miners.

The Chairman of the forum, Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi, who is also the Balogun of Ijebu-jesa, who led the members of IMRDF spoke at lenghth on the danger inherent in illegal mining that include chemical poisoning of the soil and the rivers and degradation of Ijesa farmlands. He as well elaborated on the advantages derivable from the one-in-the-country large scale gold mining company if properly approached as made it known that the IMRDF has engaged the service of a leading financial Investment company to collate prospective Ijesa people share holders of the company with aiming of making the people long time finacial beneficiaries.

The Elegboro of Ijebu-jesa, his Royal Majesty Oba (Engr.) Moses Agunsoye II condemned the situation where non-Ijesa indigenes will be benefitting from the mineral resources located in Ijesa land more the landlords. 


The Elegboro of Ijebi-jesa led traditional rulers of Ijesa North Council that included Oba Ogunmokun, the Akeji of Ikeji, Oba Oladele Bejide, the Olu of Afibiokin, Oba Aderogba Akinbayode, theAlapeju of Ilupeju-Ijesa, Oba Ayelabola, the Olowena of Owena, Oba Areola Adedeji, the Aringbajo of Igbajo-Ijesa, oba Sunday Farohun, the Ewi of Oke-Ogun, and Oba Abdul Sarumi, the Olu of Orisumbare.


The IMRDF team was led by its Chairman, Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi. Also in the IMRDF Team were the Vice Chairman 1, Mr Supo Shadiya; Vice Chairman 3, Dr Adigun Adewoye; Financial Secretary, Alhaji Lateef Bakare; General Secretary, Sir Ezekiel Ogunjuyigbe; Government Relations Adviser, Mrs Dupe Ajayi Gbadebo; Arc Ayo Osunloye; Mr Wale Idowu; Dr Segun Ojo; and Barrister Dosu Babatunde.
