The Roots Club of Ijesaland, a social Club established some thirty-four years ago is working to reduce maternal mortality in Ijesaland. This is evident in the presentation of maternity kits to various maternity centres across Ijesaland on Wednesday 30th of December, 2020.

Our correspondent followed the members of the Club led by the President, Prince Samson Atayero on visit of six selected maternity centres across six Local Government Areas of Ijesaland where delivery kits were donated to promote and enhance safe births and to eradicate maternal and infant mortality.

The team that also included Engr. Yemi Oguntominiyi, Col. Dr. Akin Moses, Prof. Kola Kazeem, Mr. Dosu Gidigbi, Hon. Dosu Babatunde, Mr. Deji Anjorin and Dr. Kayode Adebayo  departed the Club House located at Oke-Omiru, Ilesa at about 8:30am on a 9-hour tour of maternity centres of Ibokun in Obokun Local Government, Ijebujesa in Oriade Local Government, Iperindo in Atakumosa East Local Government, Oke-Osin in Atakumosa West Local Government, Ilaje in Ilesa West Local Government and Imo in Ilesa East Local Government.

They went round the six local government areas, ensuring that they get to the maternities and gave 25 kits to each, making about 150 kits in all. Each of the kits bags contains umbilical cord clamp, suction apparatus, plastic gloves, mucus extractor, catheter, gel, anticeptic and metylated lotions.

The benefitting maternities are expected to help ensure that the right set of people are made to use these kits not those who have the wherewithal.

At each of the stops, the President, Prince Atayero mentioned that the Roots Club of Ijesaland has membership that cut across the length and breath of Ijesa communities.

"It is a Club that has a pan Ijesaland membership. There is hardly any town in Ijesaland that is not represented in the Club. The Club is primarily put in place for the development of Ijesaland in all ramifications.
