Traders and citizens whose livelihoods were taken away when fire razed Atakumosa market, Ilesha in 2015 can now have the sign of relief as the state government of Osun state has completed the first phase of about 200 lock-up and open shops in the market, 30 VIP toilets and 2 motorized water system .
This was revealed at the inspection of the already completed phase one and the commencement of second phase by the joint inspection team of the ministry of commerce and the ministry of works led by their commissioners, Dr. Bode Olanipekun and Engr. Omowaiye Oluremi respectively.
In an interview with our correspondent, the Honourable Commissioner for Commence, Dr. Olanipekun said the rebuilding of the market will be of great economic and socio-economic importance to the people of Ijesha and the state at large as it will boost the state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) when fully completed as the market is the biggest market in Osun state and it attract traders from all the south west states including Kogi and Kwara states.
The rebuilding of the market will also bring back the confidence of the traders and the citizen of the town have on this Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s led administration as the masses friendly government.
According to the Honourable Commissioner, the market when completed will put an end to the street trading that the people have embarked on since the market got burnt in 2015. He said that people have embarked on banned street trading especially around Owa’s palace and the Ereja roundabout and that he believes that all these will stop as soon as the shops are completed.
The Commissioner further hinted that Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has approved the commencement of the 2nd phase of the rebuilding of the Atakumosa market which will be completed in two months time.
He further appealed to the good people of Ijesha and Osun at large to give maximum support to Governor Oyetola as he’s determined to build Osun and place Osun on the world’s map economically.
Also speaking with the Babaloja of Atakumosa market, Chief Olatunji Abiona Obembe, he expressed his satisfaction on the rebuilding of the market by Governor Oyetola’s led administration. He described the governor as a man of few words but many result oriented actions, a promise keeper and a lover of the masses. He however appealed to the government to hasten the completion of the project so as to allow his people go back to their normal trading in the market.
Likewise the Iyaloja of the market also expressed her gratitude to the state government and appreciated the kind gesture of the governor on the intervention to put back the structures of the market for the use of the masses. She promised on behalf of other traders to adequately care for the facilities when completed. She also promised to mobilize other market women to support and vote massively for Governor Oyetola for his second term.
She however appealed to the citizens to always pay their levies and taxes in order for the government to be able to complete and do more developmental projects in the state.
In the same vein, the All progressive Congress party chairperson in Ilesha west , Olori Mary Agbadaoje thanked the governor for fulfilling the promise to rebuild the market thus giving the party the pride and opportunity to fulfil her electoral campaign promises in Ijesha land.
She then appealed to the traders and the citizens to exercise patient with the government as Governor Adegboyega Oyetola is always working on keeping all his campaign promises and will complete the market as promised.
