Old Students of Ilesa Methodist High School (OSAMETHSI) Commit over N200m to the School's Development... Prepare for 65th anniversary celebration






The National President of the Old Students Association, Methodist High School, Ilesa (OSAMETHSI), Engr. Dideolu Falobihas said that the 65th year’s anniversary celebration of the school which holds from 29th-31st October 2021 will be a celebration "of what God has done in the life of the school and all its stakeholders including the Methodist Mission, the Old Students, the current students and the teachers; old and new."




He said this on Saturday at a Press Conference held in the refurbished School Hall. 


"This anniversary is a celebration of what unity of purpose, uncommon passion and unalloyed commitment to set goals and objectives can do in turning the destinies of individuals and institutions  around for good." He said.


The theme of the anniversary which is fully sponsored by OSAMETHSI is “The Teachers and their Products: Living Legends”. It will also feature the celebration of some of the teachers who taught in the school between 1956 and 1990. Old Students that passed out of the school between 1961 and 1970, some current teachers while some brilliant students will also be encouraged.


The highlights of the celebration will include the commissioning of projects such as the newly completed multi-purpose hall, new volleyball court, the newly refurbished Biology Laboratory, The Peter Ojo Astronomy centre among others.

According to him, the 65th Anniversary is "also a celebration of the contributions of the Old Students’ Association to the  holistic development of their alma mater to which they have  committed more than N200million over the past six years as he highlighted some of the recent projects and activities of the OSAMETHSI which included:

 1. Construction of new ultra/modern Access/Security gate.

2. Complete refurbishment of 49 classrooms, including re-roofing, replacement of windows, doors, painting, and flooring of classrooms.

3. Refurbishment of Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories.

4. Complete upgrade and modernization of home economics building.

5. Construction of Olympic size Basketball Court & Volleyball court.

6. Reactivation of Water Supply System through deep well, tank and pipes.

7. Renovation of Principal’s Office.

8. Construction of a Car park for Principal’s use.

9. Refurbishment of the Corper’s Lodge and provision of pumping machine for Water Supply.

10. Construction of new Block of Toilets for Staff and Students.

11. Donation of thousands of Uniforms for Students.

12. Sponsorship of 2016 and 2018 Inter House Sports Competition.

13. Donation of 11 sets of Computers with Printer to the Principal’s Office.

14. Renovation of school fence.

15. Donation of graduation gowns 

16. Provision of new set of chairs and tables for two blocks of classrooms.

17. The complete refurbishment and upgrade of the School hall (Re-roofing, flooring and tiling ceiling, modern windows, painting, provision of toilet facilities , electricity and fans, etc for 65th Anniversary).

18. Donation of a giant signpost.

19. Donation of 10kva Generator

20. Provision of funding for prizes for good performance 

21. Donation of various sporting equipment and materials, jersey, balls etc

 



Engr. Falobi flanked by Mr Seun Ajayi, Mr. Leke Bodunrin  (a.k.a Senior) and Mrs. A. Adagunodo, the School Principal also mentioned the following ongoing projects:

 1. Construction of Astronomy Observatory and Knowledge Center(Awaiting supply of equipment).

2. Construction of E-Library(On-going).

3. Construction of modern TableTennis Gymnasium (On-going).


The events slated for the anniversary celebration include a quiz competition, basketball game and friendly football match coming up on Friday, October 29, 2021


On Saturday, October 30, 2021, there will be a keynote address by His Excellency Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, the executive governor of the State of Osun who will also commission some of the  projects.


On October 31, 2021, there will hold a Thanksgiving at the Methodist Cathedral, Otapete, Ilesa. 


Engr. Falobi seized the occasion of the Press Conference to appreciate the governments of Governors Oyinlola, Aregbesola and Oyetola for the support received by OSAMETHSI since they started their intervention in the school in 2004. He also expressed the appreciation of all members of the alumni to all the Principals and teachers that have influenced the school, 


Making a very strong case for the personal attendance of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola at celebration, Engr. Falobi said; "it will not only encourage us to do more, it will also encourage other Old Students‘ Associations in Osun State. I sincerely hope that our very amiable Governor, who encouraged us massively when he was the Chief of Staff, would honour us with his distinguished presence." He concluded as he presented sporting materials that included footballs, basketballs, trophies and jerseys for the use of the sporting events that make part of events of the 65th founding day anniversary celebration.
