A 78-year-old man, Moshood Habibu, has allegedly hacked his 94-year-old brother, Salisu Surakatu, to death following a land tussle in Mowe, Ogun State.
The suspect was arrested on the 24th of November 2021, after the son of the deceased, Aminu Tajudeen, reported the incident at Mowe Divisional Headquarters.
The suspect told the Police that the deceased had sold a plot from their family land and refused to give him his share. He went to the deceased house in Kara Ewumi village, where they engaged in an argument and he macheted his brother to death.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, made this known in a statement issued on Saturday.
“The suspect claimed that the deceased sold a plot from their family land and did not give him his share of the proceeds and that he went there that morning to demand his share, which led to a hot argument between them.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect went to the deceased house armed with a cutlass, and when he got there, the deceased who was visually impaired didn’t know he came with a cutlass. While the deceased was asking him to leave his house, he descended heavily on him and macheted him to death,” he said.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
