PHOTONEWS: Iwude Ijesa Festival 2021 Ayo Olopon Competition.... Loofosan advocates the use of traditional sportsmanship to promote unity






Nigerians have been advised to give credence to local games such as ayo olopon to prevent it from extinction.


The patriarch of Falomo family of Ifosan , Ilesa, the loofosan, high chief Olu Falomo gave the advice at the finals of the well attended Iwude Ijesa 2021 ayo olopon competition held at the Obokungbusi Civic Centre on Thursday.


Chief Olu Falomo who  described Ayo olopon, traditional game as one of age long legacies bequeathed to his family by his forefathers, promised that  generations after him would keep the flag flying, maintaining that the game  served as a unifying factor among the players.


He urged the players and spectators to apply the same spirit of sportsmanship in their day to day activities to sustain the  current  peace and Unit in the land.


The vice Chairman, Iwude Ijesa planning committee , Chief Afolabi Igbaroola reaffirmed the readiness of the committee to be on the front burner of activities that would further foster unity of Ijesaland.

At the end of the keenly contested competition among 20 contestants that lasted over six hours, Mr  Jonathan Idowu won the star prize of 30,000 naira, Mr Seun Adekunle went home with 20,000 naira as the first runner up, while Mr Adejuwon Aluwaye clinched the third position and went away with 10,000 naira.


The Cultural Day which is one of the core programs of the Iwude Ijesa festival is underway at the Oba Adekunle Aromolaran civic centre. 

The grand finale of the 2 weeks long annual festival of unity holds tomorrow starting with a marathon race at 7 am in the morning, followed by a royal procession to be led by the Owa Obokun and grand civic reception at the palace square.
