WHEN IJESA PEOPLE ORGANIZE TO CHANGE THEIR COMMUNITY... By Oladimeji Lasore

"Let us rise up tonight with a greater readiness. Let us stand with a greater determination. And let us move on in these powerful days, these days of challenge, to make Ilesa (sic) what it ought to be. We have an opportunity to make Ilesa (sic) better"-Martin Luther King, Jr. in a speech in Memphis in 1968.

The above quotation made in 1968 on America finds relevance in the present day awakening thread in Ijesaland by Ijesa sons and daughters, organizing themselves for a better community, coming together to share goals and ideas. Talking about what matters to them, and then work together to successfully change their community.

In recent times, Ijesa people are coming together to identify common problems or goals, mobilize resources, and, in other ways, develop and implement strategies for reaching the objectives they want to accomplish.

I would like to use this piece to make it explicit, and try to explore it more fully.

December 26, 2020, Ijesa people spectacularly completed and handed over a distinctive N260m palace to the Owa Obokun Adimula royalty, His Excellency Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, the Executive Governor of Osun State attended its commissioning.

And today, 31st March, 2022, a M650m, Ijesaland Geriatric Centre, independently funded medical facilities that rank first among its only equal which is the Ibadan Geriatric Centre will be commissioned.

For this remarkable feat, It is important to acknowledge those who took the bull by the horn and mobilized the people. This write-up will be incomplete without mentioning  Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi, Chief Akínwándé Akinolá, the Sàwè of Ilésà, Prof. Folúsó Ã’kúnmádéwá, Prof Isaac Fólórunsó Adéwolé, Prof. Oyèwùsì Géreje, Prof. Bíódún Ilésanmí, Mrs. Modúpé Àjàyí-Gbádébò, Engr. Bùsáyò Àlùkò, Prince (Rev) Adélówò Adébíyî, Erelú Olúsolá Agbéja-Obadá, Prof Oyèwùsì Gúreje.

Others are Engr. Bólá Olówè, Mr. Iyìolá Fáníyì, Hon. Timothy Owóèye, Dr. Charles Diji Akinola, Engr. Olúségun Ã’kèbíòrun, Chief Afolábí ÃŒgbàróolá, Mr. Wálé ÃŒdòwú, Alhaji Lateef Àkàndé Bákàrè, Prof. Bíódún Ilésanmí, Dr. (Col.) Akin Moses, Eng. Yemí Ã’gúntóminíyì, Chief Lékan Kómoláfé and Mrs. Olúwáyémisí Àpèké ÃŒyàndá

More so, some corporate donors need to be mentioned, such as Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi Foundation, National Egbe Omo Obokun North America, Ijesa Sports Club, The Ijesa Society, Ijesa Felates Club, Ijesa Elders Forum, Egbe Omo Obokun in New York, New Jersey, Roots Club of Ijesaland, Rest Park Garden, Ilesa, Egbe Omo Obokun Baltimore, Washington and Ere-Ijesa Community Sons and Daughters.

Many Ijesa sons and daughters have also contributed in their own little ways to make this a resounding success. This tasks could never be completed without the unparalleled commitments of the generality of the people who have by and by established that prosperity is a combined exertion by a committed people not only the committed instigators.

In conclusion, I would like to appreciate our people for future ventures and for the upcoming assignments that I hope will soon originate.

I am much obliged to every son and daughter of Ijesaland for conveying such extraordinary collaboration.
