It is impossible to overstate the importance of young people in government and nation-building.
Engineer Israel Ajibola Famurewa, a senatorial candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun East, made this statement while hosting an Osun youth group under the Coalition of Past Ifeland Statesmen (CPIS) led by Musefiu Kolawole Afolabi, to emphasise their demand for increased efforts from stakeholders to ensure more youth participation in governance.
Given their population and power, Famurewa said that youths are the foundation upon which every sector of the economy is formed.
He stated that the current All Progressives Congress administration at the federal and state levels had shown a very serious sense of duty by integrating youngsters in governance, and that more would still be included.
Engineer Famurewa remembered how his time in the House of Representatives as the representative for the Ijesa South Federal Constituency, had greatly benefited the youths as well.
The lawmaker recapped his petition on the floor of the house against NECO for a private school in Osun whose results were withheld but later made public after the intervention, and Advocacy for bursaries for indigent students, skill development for women’s and youth groups, and empowerment to become financially stable.
The former Osun SUBEB boss declared that if the residents of Ife/Ijesa support him, he will introduce legislation that will benefit young people and other groups in society.
The young group maintained that the country’s priorities still do not give youths their due, and as a result, it is important to make this point clear to all relevant parties.
The group condemned the attack the youths during the ‘ Endsars movement of October 20, 2020, calling whoever ordered the attack a barbarian.
The organisation did commend the Osun State administration, lead by Governor Gboyega Oyetola, for how they handled the issue and made sure that no casualties occurred at all.
It expressed gratitude to Engineer Famurewa and promised to stand behind him.
