Owaloko Lauds Iwude Ijesa Inter-Secondary Schools Debate Contest....Urges students to develop self confidence






The Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa, Oba Akeem Olusayo Ogungbangbe, the Ajagbusi Ekun VI, has implored students at all levels to develop confidence in themselves so as to embrace their full potentials inside and outside their classrooms.




Speaking at an inter-school debate contest organised by Iwude Ijesa Festival Planning Committee, one of the weeklong lined up programs for the celebration of the 2022 edition of the annual festival on Wednesday, Oba Ogungbangbe urged students to alleviate the anxiety around speaking to a large audience. 






Debaters came from five public secondary schools within Ijesaland, namely, Ogedengbe School of Science - Ilesa West LG, St. Lawrence Grammar School - Ilesa East LG, Ere Ijesa Community Grammar School - Oriade LG, Esa-Odo Community Grammar School- Obokun LG and Hope Grammar School, Ilesa East LG.


The topic for debate at the competition was "Youth Empowerment through Vocational Training and not Tertiary Education is Key to sustainable employment." Where some of the schools supported the notion, while the others spoke against.




At the keenly contested competition, Ogedengbe School of Science, Ilesa came first, Ere Ijesa Community Grammar School came second, while the third position went to St. Lawrence's Grammar School, Ilesa.




Exposing on the topic for the debate, Prof. Rotimi Tayo highlighted that vocational training and tertiary education are both important but the focus for pros or cons arguments is more on which of the two can guarantee sustainable employment.





Dignitaries at the occasion included the Ogboni of Ilesa, High Chief Fapohunda, Mrs. Nike Ayoola, members of the Iwude Ijesa festival planning committee led by Chief Afolabi Igbaroola, teachers and students


The weeklong celebration of the Iwude Ijesa festival continues today with Ago Olopon competition sponsored by the Falomo family of Ifosan, Ilesa.
