Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has suspended activities on the newly established University of Ilesa till further notice.
The National University Commission (NU) has approved the newly established University of Ilesa as the 60th state-owned university and 220th in the Nigeria during the tail end of former governor Adegboyega Oyetola in 2022.
Adeleke inaugurated a review committee on the establishment of the university, which he tasked to put up recommendations.
However, a circular signed by the Secretary to State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, with reference number SSG.165/Vol. VI/ 42, dated January 25, sighted by The Nation yesterday, ordered that activities should be put on hold by the council and organs of the new university.
The circular titled ‘University of Ilesha: Matters Affecting’ read: “As you are kindly aware, the Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, had already inaugurated an Ad hoc Committee on the university.
“Consequently, all activities of the Council and other organs of the new university are to be put on hold pending further directives by the state government.
“While the state government appreciates the Governing Council of the university, please accept the assurances of my warmest regards and best wishes.”
