There have been celebrations to mark the beginning of the new year 2023 for many Ijesa people and group of friends particular organized by prestigious families.
Saturday 14th of January 2023 will be remembered by many Ipole-Ijesa residents as the day Prince Kehinde Oyeleye organized a New Year Thanksgiving party for his people, the first of its kind as it was an opportunity to review the rich cultural heritage of the ancient town and plan for its development.
There was a spectacular display of cultural dance by Ipole-Ijesa Cultural Dance Troupe and Apata Ayeraye Theatre group. Splendid Fuji music by Ogidan Wonder and Omo Ibile from Ipole-Ijesa and good melodious juju music from Imole band while the MTN staff stand gave out free airtime, free sim cards and assisted many of their subscribers resident in town to upgrade their sim cards to 4G status.
The program which started from about 11am and lasted till 6pm in the evening.
In a chat with our correspondent, Prince Kehinde Oyeleye, an heir who is most likely to be enthroned as the next Ogboni of Ipole, the stool that became vacant at the demise of late Oba S. A. Popoola, traced his line of descent continuously from his ancestor.
