Alleged murder: Court remands hunter in police custody

A Magistrates’ Court in Akure on Friday ordered that a hunter, Michael Sunday, 28, be remanded in police custody for alleged murder.

Magistrate F. A. Aduroja, who gave the order, adjourned the case until May 3 for a ruling on the bail application by the defence counsel, Mr Adelanke Akinrata.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Mary Adebayo said that the offence was committed on April 18 at Utaja, Idanre, Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Adebayo added that the offence is punishable under Section 319( 1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

She prayed the court to remand Sunday in the Ondo Correctional Centre pending investigation.

In his response, Akinrata, opposed the application, adding that the prosecution had no convincing evidence and information to connect the defendant to the alleged killing.

Akinrata asked the court to grant the defendant bail, saying that the defendant was still innocent until proven otherwise.
