Gbajabiamila Insists, “I’ve Not Declared Support For Any Speakership Candidate”

Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has reaffirmed his position about who will succeed him and has made it clear that “I have not declared support for any of my colleagues who have declared their interest.”

The Speaker allegedly supported Tajudeen Abbas, a lawmaker from Kaduna State’s Zaria Federal Constituency, according to a news report that appeared in a national newspaper.

In a tweet on Thursday, Gbajabiamila denied a rumour that he opposed the alleged aspirations of Deputy Speaker Ahmed Idris Wase and other candidates for Speaker of the 10th House.

He reiterated the need to wait for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to finish its zoning exercise, adding he could not go against the will and position of his party.

According to Gbajabiamila, who is expected to be Bola Tinubu’s chief of staff: “I am a product of APC’s zoning in 2019, and I shall adhere to that any time the party comes up with its arrangement. Anyone/media peddling rumors of my endorsement of any of the aspirants should desist forthwith.
