Ijesaland Geriatric Centre Marks 1st Anniversary....Commemorating Quality and Accessible Health Care Services to the Elderly People of Ijesaland (Photos & Video Clips)




 



Ageing cannot be prevented, hence Ijesa people have planned ahead on dealing with arising conditions for great health of their senior citizens and this called for celebration as today marked the one year anniversary of an exemplary and bold achievement.


The Second Geriatric Centre in Nigeria and the best in West Africa opened its doors for usage, after uninterrupted, resilient works that commenced on 1st March, 2021 which was the beginning of landmark conception that gave birth IJESALAND GERIATRIC CENTRE, (IGC)



March 31st, 2022, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, the then governor of Osun state opened Ijesaland first geriatric hospital, a place where frail seniors with complex health issues could get the most recent technological development using latest techniques and equipment in Medicine and Surgery.

History was made on Thursday 30th June, 2022, when the IJESA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ASSEMBLY, the Proprietor of Ijesa Health Is Wealth Project formally handed over this landmark health facility to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), for the use of mankind.

Today, March 31st, 2023, a year after its commissioning, patients, family members, doctors, nurses, other health care workers and hospital leaders gathered for the grand finale of the celebrations that mark the 1st Anniversary which featured free medical outreach, health talk, counselling and games for the elderly.




In his welcome address, Dr. Oladipupo Fakoya, the Physician in Charge of the centre remarked that in the last one year, the IGC that started with outpatient service, running morning and afternoon clinics with three doctors and four nurses and a record officer now boasts of over a hundred staff and run 24-hour service.



"Our services have expanded, beyond the outpatient clinic..... we've started ward admissions and theatre procedures, we have our ophthalmology clinics twice a week, a daily dental services, dietetics services, physiotherapy services and laboratory services. In addition to these we now have the administrative unit, electrical unit, environmental and sanitation unit, security unit and our ambulance driver. He said



From the records, the centre has 2750 registered patients.

The IGC was envisioned to serve as a recreational and social centre where the elderly can come around to socialize, play games and relax, providing a friendly and therapeutic results.




Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi, the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, seized the occasion of the 1st year anniversary to appeal for more financial support towards sustaining the ambiance and keep up with the objectives as he charged the beneficiaries to inform their grown up children to support the sustainability of the centre.




The representative of the Minister of Health and Senior Management of the Ministry of Health Mr. Lawrence Anyanwu while making his remarks was delighted especially as the centre is apparent in care and services for elderly people. 



"Nobody should be left behind... we appreciate the efforts that have been done... the federal ministry of health will continue to give necessary support, this should be recommended to other communities across the country." He said






At the event, Lady Dupe Ajayi Gbadebo and Mr. Wale Idowu introduced Friends of Ijesa Geriatric Centre a group with the sole objective of providing towards sustaining the Ijesaland Geriatric Centre where recreational facilities will be incorporated into the existing medical status.

Also, Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi led the dignitaries on a facility tour of the IGC while the medical outreach was ongoing.

Dignitaries at the occasion included, Hon. Richard Adams who represented the Chairman of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, (OAUTHC), Alhaji Sheu Ningi and led other board members, top management and staff of OAUTHC to the ceremony.
