POS Operator Bought House, Car With N280m Mistakenly Transferred To His Account

A PoS operator simply identified as Alfa Rafiu has been arrested in Kwara State for allegedly squandering N280m mistakenly sent to his account.

The suspect, our correspondent gathered, is a resident of Akuji compound, Abayawo area in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.

Several bank alerts amounting to N280 million were received by him about two weeks ago, but he claimed to have no knowledge of their source. Rather than reporting the large fund transfer to the bank, he went on a spending spree, purchasing homes, cars, and sponsoring individuals to the lesser Hajj. Some people he sponsored are presently in Saudi Arabia. Despite being generous to many individuals in the community, some residents were taken aback by his sudden wealth, considering he was only a PoS operator. According to a source, the suspect has now been apprehended by police from the “C” Division Police Station, Oja-Oba, Ilorin, in the company of some bank officials.

“Although he was generous to several people in the community, some residents were surprised about his sudden wealth as a PoS operator,” the source added.

According to reports, the individual in question was apprehended by officials from the “C” Division Police Station in Oja-Oba, Ilorin, who were accompanied by bank representatives. Upon visiting the suspect’s residence on Tuesday, his PoS shop was closed, and some residents in the area claimed he had traveled and they were uncertain when he would return.
