VIDEO Clip: Gabonese Military Announced Seizure Of Power From Govt....Jubilation in Libreville after coup






A group of senior military officers in Gabon announced that they had seized power in the early hours of Wednesday.


This came minutes after the Central African state's election body announced that President Ali Bongo had won a third term.

The officers said on television channel Gabon 24 that they represented all Gabonese security and defence forces. They said the election results were cancelled, all borders were closed until further notice and state institutions were dissolved.


In the video the officers were heard saying, “Carole of the protection of the institutions before decided to defend peace by ending the regime in place. 


“For this purpose, the general elections of August 26, 2023, as well as the results are cancelled. The borders are closed until the New Year."


The Gabonese Election Centre said earlier on Wednesday that Bongo won the election with 64.27% of the vote and that his main challenger, Albert Ondo Ossa, had come in second place with 30.77%.


Bongo, 64, who succeeded his father Omar as president in 2009, had contested against 18 challengers, six of whom backed Ondo Ossa in an effort to narrow the race.
