‘Why Basiru should succeed Omisore’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has described Senator Ajibola Basiru as the best person to succeed Senator Iyiola Omisore as the national secretary.

The chapter, led by Tajudeen Lawal, endorsed the Osogbo-born politician, ahead of today’s ratification by the National Executive Council (NEC).

Lawal said in a statement by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, in Osogbo that Basiru has all it takes to perform as a national officer.

He said a vote of confidence was unanimously passed by the state executive officers at the party secretariat, based on the suitability of Basiru for the role.

The chairman recalled that the superlative performance of Basiru, an accomplished lawyer, is indelible in the Senate.

Lawal said Basiru was one of the first timers in the Senate who was saddled with the responsibility of the mouthpiece, which he carried out satisfactorily, diligently and flawlessly.

He said his experience in private and public offices at different times as a lawyer, commissioner, lecturer and senator would fortify him to excel as the national secretary.

He disclosed that Senator Basiru is the choice of all and sundry in the APC in Osun State, going by his experience, having managed elections successfully in 10 states.

Lawal said his capability and acceptability for the exalted office of the national secretary of the ruling party was not in doubt.

The Osun State APC chairman said Senator Basiru’s deep knowledge of law and legal profession interconnectivity within and outside Nigeria would be an asset for the senator to operate smoothly in the office as the national secretary of the APC.

Lawal said: “We have looked right, left and centre and we, in the state chapter of our party, have settled for the choice of Senator Basiru as the next national secretary of our great party.

“The lawyer-politician is a tested and trusted hand, whose oratory endowment coupled with efficient delivery of contents in any difficult situation has towered him above his peers.

“It will, however, not be an overstatement to describe Senator Basiru as an independent-minded personality, but it is also to his credit that he is an unrepentant team player whose contributions have positively impacted our party in Osun State.

“It is for all these reasons that we are pleading with the NEC of our party to make the ratification of Senator Basiru as the national secretary of our party a done deal at its formal meeting holding on Thursday.”
