The police have apprehended three Islamic clerics suspected of beheading a surveyor in the Moniya area of Akinyele Local Government Area in Oyo State.
Among the clerics, one is identified as a landlord residing in the Alapata area of Apete, Ido Local Government Area. His residence is situated a short distance from the surveyor’s office.
According to sources, the surveyor was well-known in the community for facilitating land transactions.
Reportedly, the suspects enticed the surveyor, who had previously worked for one of them, under the pretext of offering him a job. They then led him to a bush in Moniya, where he was tragically killed and beheaded.
The trio was apprehended in the Sango area of Ibadan North Local Government Area on Thursday, which left the Alapata community in shock.
Residents expressed astonishment at the news, particularly because one of the accused was a well-known cleric recognized for his distinctive turban within the Islamic community of Alapata.
CSP Akande Rufus Adegoke, the Apete Divisional Police Officer, confirmed the incident to Sunday Tribune. He clarified that while the alleged assailants were landlords within his jurisdiction, the heinous act occurred in Moniya. The case has been subsequently transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku for further investigation.
