University of Ilesa, Osun state is doubling efforts towards meeting prerequisites for the take off of the professional courses accredited for the institution by the National Universities Commission, NUC as it put finishes touches to the faculties of Law and Nursing as about 800 candidates made the university their choice as at October 12, 2023.
The Vice Chancellor, University of Ilesa, professor Taiwo Ashaolu dropped the hint while playing host to members of one of the Ijesa foremost societies, Ijesa Progressive Council who came visiting to the institution.
Professor Ashaolu noted that the university has renovated a quiet number of the existing infrastructures that were in deplorable conditions and erected new ones that were befitting of a world class university, courtesy of the state governor , Senator Ademola Adeleke led administration.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria, National Library donated books and journals up to 2024 edition , while the Old Students of the defunct OYOCO 1986 set also donated four modern toilets
“….nobody has given us anything except the governor and those that I have mentioned. Achievements so far , we have 32 accredited programs so far…..I am afraid we may have to step down three of them due to paucity. If you have visited this place in February or March, may be you would have said this place should be closed down because of what you would have met on ground in term of facilities. Members of staff have become disillusioned because of the deplorable conditions of every building here, but for the singular effort of the state government in terms of revamping”.
Professor Ashaolu said for the dream of having a befitting ivory tower to come to fruition, the Ijesas must fulfill their part of agreement to co-fund the institution because the requirements for the take smooth off of Faculties of Nursing, Law and Accountancy is expensive and peculiar.
The don, who showed the visitors to the faculties of Law, Arts, Education, Nursing, Law conference hall and hostels, reiterated the management’s resolve to make the university rank among the best not only in the state but the country in general.
He lamented the dearth of utility and operational vehicles, stating that the university inherited no functional official vehicles and infrastructures.
Earlier, the patron of IPC , Chief Abel Oni reminisced the contributions of the society to the establishment of the defunct Oyo State College of Education which has now metamorphosed to the University of Ilesa, reaffirming the readiness of the society to influence rapid development of the institution.
Also speaking, the secretary, Mr Michael Omowaiye stressed the need for ijesa sons and daughters who pledged to fast-track the transformation of the university to an enviable citadel to live up to their promises.
As at the time of filing this report, 69 candidates have opted for LL B Law, 249 for B N.sc Nursing and midwife and 100 for B.MLS medical Laboratory.

Joining the V.C Professor Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, PhD, FCA to receive the August visitors were, Registrar, Mr. Funso Ojo, Bursar, Dr. Mukaila Oyesegun Oyekanmi, Librarian, Mr. Adewale Amobi Ogunsipe.
