HRM, Oba Oyebade Samson Kehinde Oyeleye, Ogboni of Ipole-Ijesa, Atakumosa East local government, Osun State has promised to use is wealth of experience to showcase the richness of Ijesa culture to the outside world, particularly to the Americans and Canadians where he lived for three decades before ascending the throne of his forefathers.
He made the remarks on Monday, while welcoming a delegation of the 2023 Iwude Ijesa Planning Committee led by Chief Afolabi Igbaroola.
"The aboriginal American tribes value their own culture and exposing others people's traditional culture to them as to get their NGOs and donors supports is not new." Oba Oyeleye said
Speaking on the economic value of the annual festival, Oba Oyeleye emphasized that ijesa sons and daughters in the diaspora should be coopted by the planning committee to woo international Organizations for sponsorship.
According to him , iwude Ijesa , like other prominent festivals , such as Olojo ,in ile Ife , Osun Osogbo and Sango in Ede should be accorded cognizance and enlisted among cultural heritage to be captured in the budgetary allocation to culture/tourism in the state.
Describing Iwude as the only rallying point for the people of Ijesaland, the Ogboni harps on the function of traditional rulers, chiefs and the entire descendants of the owa Obokun and other sojourners to cooperate with the planning committee to make the festival worth the effort.
He enumerated the potential of gaming business, saying introducing Bonanza in iwude will enhance participation and boost the planning committee’s IGR.
Earlier, the chairman, Iwude Planning Committee, chief Afolabi Igbaroola told the traditional ruler that the committee relied on their (monarchs’) intellectual knowledge for the success of the Ijesa festival of unity.
