Eleven people were confirmed dead, while 59 others sustained various degrees of injury as a DAF Trailer with REG. No.SKK837X had a fatal accident along Maiyama/Koko road in Kebbi State, Tuesday evening.
In a press statement made available to Newsmen by the Police Public Relationship Officer (PPRO), Kebbi State Command, Nafiu Abubakar stated that the Trailer driven by a yet to be identified person, was carrying bags of onions, beans and six motor cycles from Gronyo LGA of Sokoto State heading to Minna, Niger State when the accident occured.
“On reaching a point near ada village, Koko/Besse LGA, the driver lost control of the vehicle as the truck head suddenly pulled out from the body, Consequently the truck head alone swerved into the bush. As a result, Sixty Five passengers, all males from Sokoto State, including the driver sustained various degrees of injuries.”
“On receipt of the accident report, a team of traffic Policemen from Koko Division rushed to the scene and removed the victims to General Hospital koko, where a medical Doctor confirmed Eleven dead, while the remaining victims are currently responding to treatment.” The statement read.
The statement read further that the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, Chris Omonzokpea Aimionowane, prayed for the reposed of the souls of the deceased persons and wished the injured ones a speedy recovery.
Mr. Aimionowane warned all drivers plying the highways to avoid overloading and over speeding while driving, to prevent future occurrence.
