CLUB 73/78 OF ILESA GRAMMAR SCHOOL OLD STUDENTS ASSOCIATION (ILEGSOSA) HOLDS ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, ELECT NEW EXECUTIVES (PHOTOS)

Club 73/78 of Ilesa Grammar School old students association  recently held its annual general meeting in the premises of the school on Saturday 9th December, 2023, where a new set of executives were elected to pilot the affairs of the association for the next two years.

As the old students of the 73-78 set of the premier grammar school in Ijesaland, the school that has produced some of the finest people ruling the roost in different sectors of the economy in Nigeria and beyond gathered for their annual general meeting, unquestionably it was a special occasion that the attendees will cherish for a very long time.

In his address, the out-going President  Mr. Idowu Ekunsuyi Ojo praised the group’s leaders and members, adding that the club had promoted unity and given its members a venue for socializing as he appreciated the tremendous support and cooperation the out-going Exco enjoyed from members both within Nigeria and in the Diaspora.

He also highlighted some of the accomplishments made by the Association while he served as President.

He said, "when, in December 2021, this administration came on board, I reeled out the programmes that we would embark on.  Prominent among the programmes were the welfare of all members, promotion of our alma mater by way of improvement of the physical infrastructure and taking our Association to higher pedestal among its peers.

"Quite a good number of our members enjoyed the collective and individual goodwill of the colleagues within the reporting period (December 2021 to December 2023).....the December 2021 general meeting decided to refurbish a block of classrooms in our alma mater....The works to be done included the re-roofing of the entire block, re-ceiling (some parts), replacing the wooden doors and windows with iron ones, electrical works and fittings, tiling, painting... It is expected that the Projects Committee will give a comprehensive report on the renovation work in the course of this meeting....As part of our efforts to take our Association to the next higher level, the position of the Vice President (Diaspora) was introduced. Although this initiative has the full backing of the extant constitution, moves are on in the ongoing constitution review to further establish this valuable position. This, we believe, will give a better sense of belonging to our members in the diaspora."

Babatunde Adewale, the Association’s newly elected president, in his acceptance speech thanked his colleagues as he promised to collaborate closely with members of the association in order to build on the accomplishments of the prior administration.

"I want to express publicly my deepest gratitude to all my colleagues in this executive committee; who have decided to walk on my side to serve this association. You reinforced my hope and strength, and lighten the burden which comes with leadership.Let us all recall that; a call to lead is a call to serve."
