Osun APC Condemns Attack On Ogun Journalist By Adeleke's Security Aides....Tasks IGP To Investigate Issue

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sympathized with the Secretary of the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Bunmi Adigun, who was attacked, harassed, manhandled and rough-handled by the security aides attached to the Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, in Ogun State yesterday.

Adigun who works with the Ogun State Television (OGT) narrated in print and video recording, how the violence-happy and overzealous security aides of Governor Adeleke became unruly and comport themselves in a manner which cast doubt in their professionalism.

The harassed journalist who was on a lawful duty to cover the 66th birthday anniversary celebration of Abepa of Joga-Orile, Oba Adeyemi Adekeye and the conferment of a chieftaincy title on Governor Adeleke said he could 'imagine how it would have been if the occasion were to be in Osun State'.

Adigun who hinted that he tried to get to those who harassed him and some cameramen "noticed that their tormentors were putting on a different uniform from the normal police uniform we all know, bellaruslike, no name tag, they were on nose mask.

Commenting on the untoward incident, the chairman of the Osun State chapter of the APC, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, condemned the attack on the journalist and some cameramen of the Ogun State NUJ extraction by the security operatives attached to Governor Adeleke.

Lawal congratulated the harassed journalist that he is alive to tell the story, saying that the brutish action of the Adeleke security operatives was in the fulfilment of an adage that says one's character is like a smoke which cannot be hidden.

The state APC chairman stated that the attack on the journalists by the Adeleke security operatives was sadistic and wicked which should be condemned by all the right-thinking members of the society.

He asked why Governor Adeleke has been attracting negative media reportage to the State of Virtues which hitherto was known for her Omoluabi ethos before the ascension of Adeleke into the political leadership of the state.

Lawal also questioned the rationale behind the Adeleke security operatives putting on a different uniform from the normal police uniform, no name tag, covering their noses and faces with nose masks.

According to the Osun State chairman of the APC, "it is incumbent on the Inspector-General of  Police(IGP) to investigate the needless and brutal attack on the innocent journalist and the cameramen who were rough handled and attacked thereby subjecting the image of the police into disrepute.

"The IGP should also find out if the indecorum Adeleke security aides who threw caution to the wind by assaulting the journalist and cameramen are either fake or authentic police because of their uniform which is different from the one accustomed to by the citizenry.

"Lawal who thanked God Almighty for Adigun for being alive also recalled how no fewer than 30 APC members of Osun State extraction were sent to the great beyond by the militia arm of Osun PDP who rigged the past series of elections in the state for the PDP candidates through maximum violence.

"Even after the election, they have continued to unleash violence on the people of the state.

"It is high time Governor Adeleke stopped exporting vices to another state as this is telling on her corporate image which has always been in the news for negative events", Lawal cautioned the governor.
