Construct 5 KM Each In 774 LGs, Group DG Counsels Tinubu

An Appeal has gone to President Bola Tinubu to evolve a mechanism that would ensure the construction of at least, five Kilometers of roads in each of the 774 local governments in Nigeria.

The National Director General of the Next Level Progressive Movement for Tinubu/Shetima, Chief Owoeye Samuel Abiodun, made call while speaking with journalists in Osogbo at the weekend.

Abiodun, a former Chairman, Obokun East LCDA and a member of the Presidential Campaign Council, said it has become imperative in order to enhance infrastructural development in the country.

Accordingly, he asserted that if  President Tinubu takes to the advice, about 3,870 Kilometers of roads would have been constructed simultaneously across the nation through council areas .

"Besides,in the remaining three years of this administration, another 11,610 Kilometers should have been completed across the country through councils. These are in addition to other roads being undertaken by the government" he noted

Owoeye stressed further that the three tiers of government could work in concert to achieve the desired result, adding,"the National Assembly and Presidency can work on the budget of 2025"

Speaking further, the former council boss opined;"The cost implications can be determined by the local or indigenous contractors under The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), a statutory body set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria with the mandate to regulate the practice of engineering in all aspects and ramifications"

According to the Director General, traditional rulers across the country would be saddled with the responsibility of supervisory role towards ensuring that good governance is firmly established at the grassroots.

"This has many advantages as it will allow local governments to function effectively in the rural areas and at the same time, create room for improved economy engagements among artisans and the likes" said Owoeye

Meanwhile, the grassroots mobilser added that such a program would ensure the minimization of diversion of funds often associated with governors, adding as well that it would reduce crime rate to the barest minimum.
