All bars in Ilesa, Osun State will be shut starting from Tuesday, in protest against the scarcity of products of International Breweries PLC in Ilesa and Ijesaland in general.
IBL brewer of Trophy lager beer is alleged by the association of selling its products outside Ilesa and Ijesaland making it difficult for sellers and distributors to have easy access to products being produced on their land.
Some distributors claim that they resulted to ordering IBL products from Ibadan, Akure and even Lagos to be able to satisfy their teaming customers in Ijesaland. This is leading the bar owners to protest, as the process is eating into their profits.
A radio announcement heard by KAKAKIOODUA has instructed all bars, hotels and distributors' outlets to remain closed tomorrow (Tuesday) and all bar operators to report in front of Owa Obokun Adimula Palace for a peaceful protest.
A distributor that spoke with our correspondent remarked that the decision of IBL PLC to sell its products outside Ilesa has negatively affected entertainment centres in Ijesaland and has led to a significant drop in her profit margin. She also said that it is becoming tough to run her bar.
A distributor affirmed that prices had indeed gone up, while sales dropped, particularly since the beginning of the year.
She said that the profit margin in the business is minimal as a result of the cost price and the number of retailers on credit has increased.
