The President of the 1973-78 set, Mr. Adewale Babatunde, said  the project was a way of giving back to the school and one of the activities to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the school.

Speaking further, Adewale remarked:

"We give glory to God for the grace to be able to conceive and deliver the renovation of Alhaji Lateef Jakande building to be commissioned today, Saturday 10th February, 2024. This has been made possible by God Almighty who inspired members of our Set (73/78) to show unparalleled dedication to the course of our alma mater through our generous donation and unalloyed dedication to the project.

"The desire to be a blessing to the School is ingrained in the DNA of members of our set. In 1984, at the 50th anniversary celebrations, we made several souvenirs to celebrate the event. Shortly after, we sponsored the first Mathematics Cup Competition among Secondary Schools in Ijeshaland which was organized by the ANCOPS then.

"So in 2021,under the leadership of our immediate Past President, Mr Idowu Ojo, we set up a Fund Raising Committee chaired by our indefatigable Diasporan Coordinator, Pastor Tim Olagoke Bello, and the work began in earnest.

"We changed the roof of the building to long span aluminium sheets, changed the windows to casement aluminum, increased the headroom of the classrooms, replaced the screeded floor with vitrified tiles and painted the walls with high quality paint, among other details. One of us who doubled as the Chairman of Project Technical Committee and the General Secretary of the set, Architect Kayode Ajayi MNIA; personally supervised the final phase of the project and delivered this masterpiece of global standards.

He said the old students were moved to tears with the magnitude of infrastructural decay in the school that produced great minds, saying this made them to

The Chairman of the Ilesa Grammar School 90th Anniversary Planning Committee, Dr. Wale Bolorunduro in his presentation of the project had earlier remarked on the level of infrastructural decay that was witnessed in the school following the three years of it abandonment caused by the Osun schools reclassification policy of the former Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola that permeated decay of all the individual structures of the school including laboratories, classrooms, hostels, toilet facilities, staff quarters, sporting facilities, roofing sheets, ceiling, floor, windows etc.

"It became so bad that a visit to the school would move you to tears, considering the level of dilapidation of the facilities in a school that was once the first among the best." Bolorunduro said as he congratulated the entire members of the set for delivering the project as part of the 90th anniversary celebration.
