The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the state Governor Ademola Adeleke over their Wednesday rush to Odo-Otin Local Government Council Area of the state, the home council of Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun, former National Deputy Chairman of the PDP who defected into the APC, the opposition party, in Osun, with the thousands of his supporters across the state, with fanfare, few days ago.
In his response to the development, the Osun State chairman of the APC, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement issued by the party's Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, today, stated that the hurried race to the Odo-Otin Local Government Council Area by Governor Adeleke and his cohorts was an indication that they are jittery and uncomfortable by Pa Shuaib's defection because of the verifiable damage that the movement has done to the ruling party in Osun State in general and Odo-Otin in particular.
Lawal told Governor Adeleke that his visit to Odo-Otin which was a panicking approach to the issue at stake could not confer any advantage on his hankering for his unmerited second term when he has apparently messed up during his ongoing 18 months in the office when he glaringly alienated all the stakeholders of the party when it was time to evenly distribute juicy appointments in his administration.
The state APC chairman explained that it would be lack of political diplomacy and tact for Governor Adeleke and his co-travellers to think and conclude that the purported endorsement of the members of the party in Odo-Otin would translate into his automatic emergence as the landlord of the Bola Ige House in 2026 as such similar endorsements of a sitting presidential candidate by a retinue of traditional rulers sometime in the past, proved abortive.
He pointed out to Adeleke that the factors that will permanently work against his aspiration for second term in the office are his past and immediate present obnoxious policies where he has pungently turned governance into the private enterprise of his extended family where he strangely appointed two commissioners from his family and appointed an inexperienced son of his late brother, former Governor Adetunji Adeleke, who has just finished from the university, as the chairman of the state local government service commission to the bewilderment of the right-thinking members of his party in particular and the larger society in general.
Lawal who described the Odo-Otin PDP event as a theatre of the absurd wondered if Adeleke had expected the chairman of the PDP in the local government council area to express the disenchantment of the members of the party in his Constituency during the governor's panicking visit fraudulently tagged the PDP Elders' Meeting when Adeleke is still in the custody of the state yam and knife.
The state APC chairman expressly told Governor Adeleke to forget his aspiration for the second shot into the office as there is no short cut for him on the political palm tree where incompetence, victimization, vindictiveness and favouritism are anxiously waiting to devour him.
Lawal also reminded the apparently confused and rattled Governor Adeleke that if he should allow the message of the highly revered former state Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, stating that the already bolted former permanent PDP BOT chairman, Pa Oyedokun, would come back into the factionalized PDP, it means Adeleke and his co-travellers are securing the proverbial antelope of last year as a deserving meal.
The state APC chairman who also picked on his counterpart in the ruling party, Mr Sunday Bisi, for disclosing that 'the opposition members are already looking for an inroad into the PDP in appreciation of the good governance being delivered by Governor Adeleke' dismissed such statement as a self-consolation as no sane person would leave a visibly abode of love and comfort for a metaphorical wrecked ship which its sinking is imminent.
In Lawal's words: "If Governor Adeleke thinks he can bribe the people of Odo-Otin with his verbal announcement of the approval of the commencement of the reconstruction of Oree/Agbeye road to be fixed with solar street lights when completed, he is making a mistake as he will not be doing them any favour as it is the right of the people of Odo-Otin to enjoy government amenities.
"By the way, when juxtaposed with the ongoing state government developmenal projects in Ede, the hometown of Governor Adeleke, with the approved shambolic reconstruction of Oree/Agbeye road in Odo-Otin, it wouldn't be an overstatement to state that Adeleke is insulting the sensibilities of the people of Odo-Otin Local Government Council Area.
"If not that Adeleke and his co-travellers are jittery over the tumultuous defection of Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun and his supporters, what would have informed the choice of Odo-Otin Local Government Council Area as the starting point for the hurriedly put together PDP Elders'Meeting after Governor Adeleke had cornered for his family and cronies the juicy appointments in his government?" Lawal asked.
