The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the ruling administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of fraudulently taking credit for the Federal Government rice which was repackaged and re-branded by the state government.
Reliable information confirmed that Governor Adeleke has started the distribution of the rice in some designated places across the state in readiness for the incoming Eid-eil-Kabir festival in some days' time.
The Osun State PDP secretariat along Osogbo-Ikirun road at Power line has become a beehive of activities as some of the PDP members were scrambling to have their own share of the Federal Government repackaged rice to give a notion that it is being given out by the Adeleke government.
It would be recalled that the Osun APC alerted the public about two months ago when it was discovered that the Adeleke government was fraudulently re-bagging, repackaging and rebranding the Federal Government palliative rice sent to the state to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal on the poorest of the poor in the state.
Further investigation revealed that the contract for the repackaging and rebranding of the Federal Government rice was awarded to a highly placed political functionary in the Adeleke government who hails from Osogbo, the state capital.
The state government did not have any convincing defence in support of its fraudulent act concerning the repackaged Federal Government's rice when the obnoxious act was blown open sometime ago.
Commenting on the development, the Osun State APC chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement issued by the party's Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, today, said it was saddening that the government of Adeleke has decided to toe an infamous line of incorrigibility to run his administration.
Lawal queried the motive of Governor Adeleke for embarking on the re-bagging of the rice meant for the people of the state with a clear presidential directive to give it out as a succour for the likely effects on the people as a result of the removal of the fuel subsidy.
In the words of the APC chairman: "Why did Governor Adeleke delay the distribution of the rice till Eid-eil-Kabir festival when it was glaring that there was visible hunger across the state?
"By needlessly hoarding the Federal Government rice, Governor Adeleke has shown to the people that he lacks empathy and he is among the state governors who have been sabotaging the welfarism programme of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as it is enshrined in his Renewed Hope Agenda.
"By warehousing the Federal Government rice for so long, how can Governor Adeleke ascertain the wholesomeness of the rice after it has spent eternity in the state government warehouse?
"Again, it is wicked of Governor Adeleke to concentrate the distribution of the Federal Government rice for the members of the ruling party alone when the directive from Abuja stipulated that the rice palliative should be for all the needy residents of the state irrespective of their political leanings or religious extraction", Lawal explained.
