NONPAYMENT OF BURSARY ALLOWANCE: Osun Law School Students Lament Hardship

Some of the affected students told SaharaReporters that despite their repeated attempts to seek intervention, including reaching out to the governor and various officials, their pleas have gone unanswered.

Students from Osun State currently attending the Nigerian Law School have said they are grappling with severe financial difficulties due to the alleged non-payment of bursary allowances by the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led state government.

Some of the affected students told SaharaReporters that despite their repeated attempts to seek intervention, including reaching out to the governor and various officials, their pleas have gone unanswered.

An affected Law Student said, “We’ve tried contacting Governor Adeleke directly, reached out to Davido through his official X (Twitter) handle, and even messaged the governor’s elder sister.”

Another source familiar with the situation added “We’ve also tweeted numerous times without any response.”

The students’ frustration is compounded by the harsh economic conditions and increased tuition fees, which contradict the House of Representatives’ directive to maintain previous rates.

The situation is particularly dire as students struggle to afford basic necessities.

“We can’t cook and have no choice but to buy food from vendors at exorbitant prices,” another source explained.

The financial strain contrasts sharply with the support provided to students from Northern states, who reportedly receive up to N2million in bursaries.

The students feel neglected and overlooked by their state government, highlighting a disparity in support.

“It seems like Governor Adeleke would rather spend on extravagant events, like Davido’s wedding, than on us,” another source said.

“We are the future judges, magistrates, and Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN). We deserve better support.”

Despite receiving N7.2 billion in April, N7.5 billion in May, and N7.1 billion in federal government allocations for Osun State, the students claim their needs have been ignored by the state government.
