The ongoing demolition exercise to pave way for the dualisation of Ereja-Okesa-Imo-Brewery-Akure express road in Ilesa, Osun state seems to be bringing tension between the Muslims and Christians of the community.
This formed part of the presentations of High Chief Bola Orolugbagbe, Odole of Ilesa and Chief Mrs Bola Ojo, Yeyerise of Ilesa at the unveiling of a seven-man team to serve in the ljesaland Independent Development Monitors (IIDM) that took place in the Owa Obokun Adimula Palace on Thursday.
High Chief Bola Orolugbagbe, Odole of Ilesa, remarked that there is a part of the Ilesa Central Mosque that has been marked for demolition and also along Okesa street there is a part of a church that is equally marked for demolition. "The bone of contention between the Muslims and christians is that if the contractor refuses to demolish part of the mosque already marked then he should not attempt to demolish part of the church as well."
"The Ijesa High Chiefs have been mediating between the two divides and invited the contractor but unfortunately he refused to honor our invitation. We are therefore seizing this occasion to call on the Ijesa Elders Forum for their intervention."
