Ikirun city

A night guard working at a shopping complex located along Station Road, Ikirun, Osun State, had been reportedly slaughtered at his duty post by some unknown assailants.

The actual period when the night guard, simply identified as Ibariba, was killed could not be immediately determined.

But sources at Station Road, Ikirun, where the shopping complex where the deceased worked, said he was found dead on Monday morning.

None of the residents approached was willing to comment on the record for fear of being linked to the crime.

However, a shop owner near the scene of the crime, who craved anonymity, during an interview with PUNCH Metro, said, “We found the body in the pool of blood when we got here this morning.

“I don’t know the name of the night guard. All we were told was that he was an Ibariba man. Going by how the corpse looked like when we got here, he must have been slaughtered. We immediately alerted the police and the (Nigeria Security and) Civil Defence. They both sent officers here.”

When contacted for confirmation, NSCDC Osun Command spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, said operatives had visited the scene of the crime.

“We had a report that today, Monday, a middle-aged man simply known as Ibariba was slaughtered by unknown assailants in the early hour while on duty as a night guard at Station Road Area, Ikirun.

“The man was working as a security in a shopping complex located in Station.
