OWA OBOKUN UNVEILS, ENDORSES IJESALAND INDEPENDENT DEVELOPMENT MONITORS

 

The Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba (Dr) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaan II, CFR, LLD on Thursday, unveiled the identity of ljesa accomplished professionals and Integrity-tested seven-man team drawn from all the six local government areas of Ijesaland to serve in the first of its kind in Nigeria, the ljesaland Independent Development Monitors (IIDM).

While endorsing the list of the members of the IIDM read out by Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi, Asiwaju of Ijesaland who doubled as the Chairman of IIDM Steering  Committee, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran prayed for the  success of the initiative.

It will be recalled that  the Supreme Court in a unanimous  judgement delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim on Thursday, July 11,  2024, the local governments directed that the  allocations from the federation account should henceforth be paid directly to the local governments.

Furthermore, after the judgement of the Nigeria apex court on Local government autonomy, President Bola Tinubu remarked that “By virtue of this judgement, our people – especially the poor – will be able to hold their local leaders to account for their actions and inactions,...What is sent to local government accounts will be known, and services must now be provided without excuses."

The IIDM is charged with the responsibility to enhance good governance, financial transparency and accountability in the use and application of public resources and to monitor the performances of incoming local governments administrations under the newly introduced local government autonomy by President Bola Tinubu's administration.

Speaking at the ceremony which took place at the Owa Obokun Adimula Palace, Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi, the Asiwaju of Ijesaland said the  selection of the IIDM team symbolized the determination of the members of Ijesaland Community Development Association to continue to drive progress, efficiency and local government effectiveness in Ijesaland.

The Chairman of the IIDM is Dr. Adigun Adewoye, a Consultant Statistician, He holds a PhD in Management from the Evangel Christian University of America, Louisiana, a Master of Science in Statistics and Bachelor of Science in Geography from University of lbadan, Nigeria.

The Vice Chairman is Sir Ademola Aladekomo, an accomplished Computer Engineer. He has served as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of SmartCard Society of Nigeria, Council Member, Osun State University, Board Member, Osun State University.

The General Secretary is Dr. Olusanya Olajide, a management consultant. 

Other members are Dr. Oluremi Folorunso FCA, a renowned accountant, Barr. Funmi Obisan, a legal practitioner, Mr. Ayodeji Odeyemi, a seasoned banker and Mr. Tobi Adeleye an IT/Data Analyst.

Chiefs that graced the unveiling included the Obala of Ilesa, High Chief Saka Fapohunda, Ogboni of Ilesa, High Chief Bola Orolugbagbe,Odole of Ilesa, Oba-Odo of Ilesa, Lejoka of Ilesa, Chief Mrs Bola Ojo, Yeyerise of Ilesa, Yeye Oba-Odo and Yeyesogba.

Present at the occasion were the IIDM Steering Committee led by Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi (Chairman), Alhajl Lateef Bakare (Vice Chairman), Alagba Wale ldowu (Director of Advocacy), Chief Mrs Yemisi Falope, Chief Akin Olatunbosun.

Also some members of Ijesaland Community Development Association that witnessed the unveiling were Chief Afolabi Igbaroola, Mr. Bukola Fadipe and Erelu Jumoke Olafadehan.
