In its continued quest to advance the human capital development agenda for Ijesa youths, the Ijesa Youth Forum (IYF), the foremost and apex body of youth organizations in Ijesaland, recently organized a 3-day empowerment programme for 200 young women in Ijesaland. The event, held from Monday, 23rd September to Wednesday, 25th September, 2024, took place at Obokungbusi Hall, Adimula's Palace, Ilesa, Osun State.
The programme, supervised by the IYF Secretariat, focused on equipping aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners with essential skills to thrive in today’s competitive business environment. It was made possible through a collaboration with the Enterprise Development Center, Pan-Atlantic University, bringing expert training and knowledge to the participants. The Director of Women Affairs and Welfare Officers of the forum coordinated the event, ensuring the young women received hands-on training and mentorship from seasoned facilitators.
Participants from all the local governments in Ijesaland Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Oriade, and Obokun attended.
In addition, the Ijesa caucus of the Osun State House of Assembly (OSHA), through Hon. Adeyemi Adeyemi of Obokun State Constituency, sponsored the logistics and accommodation for the participants. This generous gesture significantly enhanced the comfort of the attendees, allowing them to focus fully on the training sessions.
This empowerment initiative aligns with IYF's broader commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, self-sustainability, and economic growth within the Ijesa community.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the IYF National President, Micheal Olufemi, ably represented by the Forum’s General Secretary, Mr. John Rotimi Fakanlu, emphasized the significance of such initiatives in empowering women and boosting the local economy. He reiterated the forum's dedication to continually providing platforms for youth development, particularly for young women in the region.
Participants expressed their gratitude for the knowledge gained, with many eager to apply the skills. The IYF hopes this programme will create a ripple effect of economic empowerment and development across Ijesaland.
