Gunmen have killed Raymond Timothy, the Peoples Democratic Party’s councilorship candidate for Pari Ward in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, along with his brother, James Timothy.
The incident was confirmed by Barnabas Chawai, a PDP chieftain in the local government, to The Punch.
He stated that the brothers were attacked on Sunday evening while returning on a motorcycle from a political campaign in Kizachi Village, Pari Ward.
John Wanneh, the Secretary to the Village Head of Kizachi, stated that he was with the victim around 6 p.m. before they parted ways, as the victim was heading back to his home in Bakin-Kogi.
“It was not more than 10 to 15 minutes when we parted ways that we heard gunshots around some guinea corn farms.
“Honestly, we cannot be able to say who are those that committed this crime or say the killing was connected to politics or not,” Wanneh added.
He appealed to the government to construct a bridge and road to improve accessibility, especially during emergencies.
“Security operatives cannot enter the village now because of the bad nature of the road and there’s a river which they cannot cross, that has been our situation for long,” Wanneh lamented.
The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM) scheduled the local government elections in the state for 19 October.
