Monarch Harps On Unity, Throws Weight behind Iwude Ijesa Planning Committee






The Oloja of Ibodi-Ijesa, HRM Oba Cornelius Omisade Agboluaje, has called on the people of Ijesaland to cultivate sense of unity and work assiduously for the development of the Ijesa communities.


Oba Agboluaje made the call while playing host to the 2024 Iwude Ijesa Festival Planning  Committee led by its Chairman, Chief Afolabi Igbaroola who were on a royal homage to his Ibodi-Ijesa residence.


As a measure to strengthen bond of unity and love, the monarch urged the leadership of Ijesaland Communities Development Association (ICDA) to spread their developmental activities throughout the zones of Ijesaland.





On the Iwude Ijesa festival, Oloja of Ibodi-Ijesa applauded the planning committee owing to the various innovative rebranding it has brought to the annual celebration of the festival and lauded the committee for projecting the image of Iwude Ijesa in good light.


Agboluaje expressed confidence in the leadership and membership of planning committee, describing them as people of undoubted integrity.


He therefore tasked the committee to further synergize with other stakeholders to make this year’s grand finale a huge success.


The Chairman of the Committee, Chief Afolabi Igbaroola said his team was at the palace to intimate the Oloja that arrangements for the 2024 edition of the festival are already in motion to improve on the past performances of the event.


Igbaroola disclosed that the committee had met with Ijesaland stakeholders comprising of Clubs and Societies such as various Clubs and Societies ("Elegbejegbes") and also explored other areas to showcase annual event on a global map.


Speaking on the sidelines of the visit to Oloja of Ibodi-Ijesa, Igbaroola said;


“The essence of today’s meeting is to give you the latest updates , and to brief you about the implementations of the plans on ground (for this year).


"We are here to ask for your blessings as usual, and to bring to your knowledge that the rebranded Iwude Ijesa festival is undergoing another phase of rebranding. 


“Our plan is to have a very good reception this year so that we will be able to have time to showcase the rich culture of our people and enough time for merriment and socializing. Not only that, we have held meetings with the Clubs and Societies including those in the diaspora and communicated same to HRH Oba Aromolaran who has given his ascent.


"The traditional statutory day of the visitations of the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland to his chiefs that include the Yeyerise, Obala, Sawe, Lejoka and Salotun courtyards has been separated from the day for the grand reception. 


"The statutory visits will hold on Saturday 21st of December while the grand reception will hold at the Ilesa Grammar School, mini sport arena on Sunday the 22nd.


"We are reaching out to a lot of multinational companies to contribute and make it great.


“At the same time, I want to use this opportunity to call on our traditional rulers, ijesa people, our friends and those in the Diaspora to participate fully and cooperate with us. 


“We thank God, Ijesaland and its environs are peaceful. We believe that we will continue to live peacefully”, Igbaroola said.





Oba Agboluaje later led the committee the Chairman and members that included Mr. Bunmi Oladele, Oladimeji Lasore, Erelu Jumoke Olafadehan and Mrs. Bunmi Ogunniyi to the site of the modern Oloja Palace under construction at Oketa, the monkey forest and the ancient palace of Oloja where he offered prayers for the success of the planning committee endeavors.

This year’s Iwude Ijesa grand finale is scheduled to hold on the last Saturday before Christmas (21st December , 2024), while the grand reception and paying of homages to Owa Obokun Adimula and other Ijesaland traditional rulers by Elegbejegbes will hold at the mini-stadium of Ilesa Grammar School on Sunday the 22nd of December, 2024.
