Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, Executive Director (Projects Implementation) at the Federal Housing Authority , Nigeria has expressed his heartfelt condolences on the glorious transition of Owa Obokun Adimula, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, the paramount ruler of Ijesaland.
Omowaiye eulogized the departed monarch for his exceptional qualities, saying, "Kabiyesi Aromolaran was a worthy father and a quintessential imperial majesty who dedicated his life to the triumph of us, his subjects. We celebrate the life of this great scholar, author, publisher, accomplished civil servant, and traditional leader, even as we mourn his absence at a time when his profound counsel and guidance are needed most."
Omowaiye, a former Commissioner for Works and Transport in Osun State, on behalf of the Omowaiye family of Ikoti in Ilesa consoled the Oloris, children, and all the beloved sons and daughters of Ijesaland on the demise of the first-class Oba. He described Oba Aromolaran's 42-year reign as a watershed in Nigeria's traditional institution.
"We take comfort in the fact that one of Kabiyesi's greatest wishes - the establishment of a public university in Ilesa - was fulfilled during our administration, led by His Excellency, Adegboyega Oyetola, former Governor of Osun State. The University of Ilesa, founded by our administration, was a worthy parting gift to Kabiyesi Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, Owa Adimula of Ijesaland. May his earthly labours be rewarded with eternal rest. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen," Omowaiye concluded.
Oba Aromolaran, renowned for being the first traditional ruler in Nigeria with a doctoral degree, was born on October 13, 1937. He had a distinguished academic and professional career, culminating in his ascension to the throne on February 20, 1982. He authored over 100 titles, including the celebrated "Economics of West Africa."
