Stakeholders from Osogboland, led by the Asiwaju of Osogboland, Chief Ajadi Badmus, on Saturday paid a condolence visit to the Agba-Ijesa and the entire Ijesaland following the passing of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Dr. Adekunle Aromolaran II.
According to Chief Ajadi Badmus, the visit was in compliance with the directive of the Ataoja of Osogboland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji, Laroye II who instructed the delegation to extend heartfelt sympathies to the people of Ijesaland during their period of mourning.
Chief Ajadi Badmus, while speaking on behalf of the Ataoja, described the late Owa Obokun as a father figure not just to the people of Ijesaland, but to the entire Osun State.
He emphasized the deep, historical relationship between Osogboland and Ijesaland, stating that the bond between the two towns is rooted in an ancient, ancestral connection that can never be broken.
"The late Oba Dr. Adekunle Aromolaran was a beacon of unity, and his legacy will continue to strengthen the cordial ties that bind our people together," Chief Badmus said.
Responding on behalf of the Agba Ijesa, the Chairman of the Iwude Ijesa Planning Committee, Chief Afolabi Igbaroola, expressed profound gratitude for the visit.
He acknowledged the historical relationship between Osogbo and Ijesaland, noting that the gesture from Osogboland reaffirmed the strong cultural and ancestral ties that both communities have shared for generations.
Also speaking during the visit, Elder Wale Idowu, a prominent community leader and former Director-General of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, emphasized the significance of sustaining the bond between the two regions.
He called for continued cooperation and mutual respect, stressing that the friendship between Osogbo and Ijesaland should be upheld for the benefit of future generations.
The delegation included distinguished individuals such as renowned contemporary Nigerian artist Baba Jimoh Buraimoh, Retired Justice Moshood Kunle Ajiegbe, former president of the Osogbo Progressive Union, Prof. Salami, as well as members of the Osogbo Action Council and Osogbo Progressive Union Executives.
Other notable members of the delegation included Barrister Oladiti, Dr. Adetoro, Barrister Ajibade, Iyaafin Adewunmi, Chief Kamorudeen Yusuf, Muftau Olaoluwa, and Elder Adetoyese Shittu Alamu.
The visit further solidified the camaraderie between Osogbo and Ijesaland, demonstrating that the passage of the Owa Obokun is not just a loss for Ijesa people, but for the entire state and Nigeria at large.
