Iwude Ijesa Planning Committee members have made a working visit to the office of the Osun State Commissionner for Culture and Tourism to intimate the Ministry with the format of the 2024 edition of the festival which will be taking a new direction as from this year.
Speaking on Tuesday, in the office of the commissioner Hon. Abiodun Bankole Ojo (FAFA) who was surrounded by the Principal Officers of the ministry, including the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Gbemi Fayoyin. Chief Afolabi Igbaroola who led the Iwude Planning committee's contingent said that Oba Adekunle Aromolaran II CFR, LLD, the late Paramount Ruler of Ijesa had before joining his ancestors accepted the proposal to separate the spiritual/cultural cum traditional and secular aspects of the Iwude festival by allocating each aspect a dedicated day, so as to give appropriate focus and attention to both components of the festival.
"Thus for this year's edition of the festival the planning committee is concentrating on planning towards the social aspect of the festival which is the grand reception that is not connected with the spiritual or traditional religious matter as the Agba Ijesas (High Chiefs) are to decide on the format that the tradio-religious aspect will take." Igbaroola said
The planning committee Chairman also explained that the venue of the social reception has been shifted from Ereja Civic Center to the more spacious venue of Ilesa Grammar School mini sport arena.
"Arrangements and plannings are already in top gear by different Ijesaland Clubs and Societies for the Sunday 22nd December, 2024 grand reception that is expected to feature concert-like grand reception where Ijesaland traditional rulers and the Agba Ijesas will be seated as "elegbes" consisting of age-group societies, representatives of Ijesaland clubs and associations take turns to pay homage as musicians and entertainers render their performances.
Chief Igbaroola equally seized the occasion of the visit to appreciate the Osun State governor, Asiwaju Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke for the assistance from the government at the last Iwude festival and at the Commissioning of the Iwude Ijesa Secretariat. He also extended his appreciation to the members from the ministry that are enlisted with the planning committee.
The vice Chairman of the planning committee, Alagba Wale Idowu appealed to the commissioner to use his office to liasse with the Ministry of Education for the release of Ilesa Grammar School sports arena for the purpose of the grand reception.
In his response the Commissionner who had earlier presented his condolences and that of his Ministry to the entire people of Ijesaland on the demise of Oba (Dr) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, promised continuous cooperation of the ministry and the government for the success of the 2024 rebranded edition of the festival.
Other principal officers of the ministry that were present included Mrs Toyin Ajayi - General Manager - Tourism Board, Mrs Adegbemi (DAS Tourism Board, Mr Oladipo Sunday (AT) - Tourism Board, Mrs Ojekale Idowu - Director of Hospitality and Hotel Management, Mrs Akinyemi Stella - Director, Museum and Monument, Mrs Kayode Mary (DF), Mr Ibrahim Ojo - Director of Field Research and Documentation, Mr Babarinde Abdulrazaz - Tourism Officer and Mrs ajayi Margaret oluwatoyin General Manager.
