The process and shortlisting of the right candidate to fill the vacant position of the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Owa Obokun Adimula might soon commence.
The Ogboni of Ipole-Ijesa Oba Omokehinde Samson Oyebade Oyeleye gave a hint when a powerful delegation led by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, Alhaji Bola Oyebamiji, paid a condolence visit on behalf of Alhaj Adegboyega Oyetola to the Agbanla Ijesa, Agba Ijesa, Owa-in-Council and Ijesa people in Ilesa on Monday.
The selection process which is usually done in top secret will not be compromised.. Ogboni of Ipole-Ijesa asserted as he solicited for support and understanding of Ijesa sons and daughters and politicians in particular.
KAKAKIOODUA learnt that there are four Ruling Houses for Owa Obokun. Ascension to the throne is by rotation. The Ruling Houses are Bilayi Arere (just deceased), Bilaro (Ruling House next in line to produce the next Ọwa), Biladu and Bilagbayo.
Under the culture and tradition of Ijesa.people, the Iwarefamefa are the custodians of the selection process and are believed to be more in touch with the powers behind the entire ritual system, hence their decision is final.
The Iwarefamefa are; the Ogboni of Ipole-Ijesa, Ogboni of Ibokun, Ogboni of Ijebujesa, Obala of Ilesa (who stands as the regent), Ogboni of Ilesa and Obaodo of Ilesa (who stands as the Secretary).
Interested and qualified candidates from the.next ruling house–Bilaro are at liberty to present themselves for the position by expressing their desire to become the next Owa Obokun Adimula and it is at the end of the selection process that one name would be presented to the state government.
However, the next ruling house might meet to carry out an in-house consultation and agree on only one person which would be submitted to the kingmakers, then the selection and confirmation will be subjected to ritual consultation process of Ifa.
It is also the duty of the Iwarefamefa to present the name the person they selected to the government.
