Osun Mining: IMRDF advocates synergy among security agencies to bring about safe mining practices (PHOTOS)






Mr. Supo Shadiya, Chairman Ijesaland Mineral Resources Development Forum (IMRDF) has underlined the importance of synergy and good coordination of activities among various security agencies if fair and best practices for mining in a sustainable way that optimizes the welfare of the host communities is to be maintained in Ijesaland.




This was stated by the IMRDF Chairman as he called on producing a collaboration template with the security agents. 





Supo Shadiya Declaring open a 2-day Community advocacy Engagement on safe mining practices in Ijesaland which aims to introduce a new dimension to the clamour for compliance to globally acceptable standards in the Ijesaland mining sector



Wednesday, October 30 and Thursday, October 31 have been scheduled for the assemblage of major stakeholders in the mining sector at the Ilesa Social Elite Club House, Isokun.

KAKAKIOODUA correspondent at the Wednesday meeting gathered that major security personnel that spoke at the event agreed that the engagement became imperative in view of the wanton degradation of landscape and destruction of farmlands being experienced in Ijesaland coupled with crimes associated with illegal mining activities.



The event was prepared as an interractive session by the IMRDF with the security agents, mining operators and community leaders 



Also speaking as he highlighted the vision and objectives of the IMRDF, Dr. Adigun Adewoye

said the engagement is in line with the advocacy initiative of the body on safe, secured and best practices of international standard wherever mining activities are taking place all over Ijesaland.



He stated that Ijesaland is today confronted with a multitude of mining related issues requiring all security services to collaborate in an effective synergy with the ultimate goal of bringing about better practices before the situation gets out of hands.

Mr. Olufemi Esan, a geologist and also a member of the IMRDF bemoaned the uncontrolled and unabated activities of illegal alluvial miners as most of the areas where they have operated have turned to death traps.

Mr. Lateef Bakare , IMRDF Vice Chairman, emphasized on critical cadastral mapping involving the creation of a digital representation of land ownership and property boundaries in Ijesaland.



Invited stakeholders from arms of the Security agencies included the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Nigeria Prison Service, Department of State Service, National Orientation Agency, Amotekun force amongst others took part at the program.






The also watched a short film documentary on the state of mining in Ijesaland and listened to Mr. Olufemi Fadare presentation on Mining and Security Concerns in Ijesaland.

The Arojo of Irojo, Oba Olusegun Akeju in his goodwill message showered lots of encomium on IMRDF as implored members not to be discouraged and put more efforts so as to achieve their aims and objectives.
