Following the gale of defection from the ruling party in Osun State - the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP into the main opposition party- the All Progressives Congress, APC, in many parts of the state, particularly in Irewole Local Government, the party's Publicity Secretary in the Council, Abayomi Hammed has declared that the ruling party in the state is dead as manifested in the incessant mass defection of genuine loyalists of the party into the APC.
He contented that no amount of political jimmick, propaganda and stage-managed defection being sponsored by the ruling party can save Osun PDP from the brink of collapse in Irewole Federal Constituency in particular and Osun state in general as people were resolute and determined to send the current government packing come 2026 gubernatorial election.
Hammed's statement was in response to the recent report allegedly sponsored by the members of the ruling party titled "Osun APC Engulfed as Thousands Decamp to PDP in Ikire" purposely aimed to misinform, mislead and hoodwink the general public by creating false impression.
This is even as he cleared the air on the purported defection of his party members into the ruling PDP saying on no account did any genuine member of the party cross carpets or pitches tent with the ruling party as there was no basis for any saned person to join 'a sinking ship.'
He said APC leadership and members were unperturbed that the ruling party who has been nursing the deep injuries suffered by the incessant mass defection in the Council could come up with blatant lies to deceive the unsuspecting members of the public.
Hammed elucidated that those erroneously painted as APC members that PDP claimed to have defected into their folds had for a very long time ceased to be members of the progressive family as they were known members of Omoluabi group being sponsored by the erstwhile Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
According to him, the trend of events in the Council in recent times is a pointer to the orphanage existence of the PDP as it has become a suffocating entity gasping for survival.
"No doubt, PDP members were all out to distort facts hence their heinous motive of misinforming the masses over the recent defection of Omoluabi group members to their party on Saturday, tagging them as APC members.
"For the avoidance of doubt none of the said defectors is a member of our party and it is imperative to clear the air that the purported defectors were Omoluabi members led by Alhaji Sule Maito who ceased being a member of our party since the year 2022.
"Also erroneous is the acclaimed Oluode of Ikire, Mr Rasheed Akande, as he is only a member of the Oluode in Ikire land.
"It is also important to note that the family of the late Chief Isola Oyewumi, a former senatorial leader of APC have denied the actions of the self acclaimed Mrs Ishola Oyewumi as she does not represent the family and does not have the mandate to speak on behalf of the late Chief Isola Oyewumi's dynasty.
"So, it is evident that events of the past few months in Ikire have proven that PDP as a party is dead in Irewole, as such, their actions over the weekend can be best described as a last kick of a dying horse, reason they had to hurriedly parade Omoluabi members as APC in order to save face for the Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi whom we learnt has been bashed on numerous occasions by the leadership of the PDP in the state for his irredeemable failures to retain PDP members.
"We can beat our chest that the All Progressives Congress in Osun state, more so Irewole local government is waxing stronger and remains formidable force that cannot be rattled by misinformation and more importantly remains unshakeable come rain, come shine", he affirmed.
